Fire Map Update - 0900

Here is a map from the San Diego Office of Emergency Management depicting the fires as of 0530 this morning:

The red areas are burn areas. The darker purple areas are mandatory evacuation areas and the lighter purple areas on the coast are voluntary evacuation areas.

Another Day - 0830

The fires have not moved any closer to us over the course of the evening. As you can see on the map below, the two separate fingers of the Witch Creek fire did burn further south and west respectively. We are still right outside the evacuations zones and have not heard if they intend on expanding them. The local winds appear to be very light and we are hoping they stay that way.

All the primary websites in San Diego with information on the fire are pretty slammed and updates load very slowly, so I will refrain from posting any links to them and will post what maps I can. I have another one downloading, I'll post it in a moment.

The kids are both doing well, although I think I'm going to go buy another Bear in the Big Blue House video to keep them quiet. At the moment, that seems to be the only show that occupies them both and that will give DominicsMom and I a momentary breather.

2300 Fires

Not much has changed for us. Almost everyone to the north and east of us has been evacuated. The fires are still quite a ways away from us, but have dominated our thoughts all day. The Witch Creek fire is the big one and has burned 125000 acres in the county. The I-15 was closed most of the day as well as the I-8 in East county.

We haven't been able to let the kids outside due to the poor air quality. They have been very good, but being kept indoors the whole day, they are starting to get a bit wild. Tomorrow promises to be fun...

I have not posted in quite awhile. I've been having some computer problems, the computer would freeze 2-4 times each day, requiring a reboot, before finally settling down. I finally found the issue (a bad memory slot), but not before I had to reformat and reinstall Windows three times. Unfortunately, during one reformat I ended up losing my data partition and all of my pictures that had not been sorted, named, and filed. Bummer. It then took me a week of attempting to recover this pictures (tough to do after a couple of formats...) But now I'm back up and running...

Fires

Sorry, I've been quiet for the last month.

However, the fires are approaching, the neighorhoods 1 mile to the north and 1 mile due east of us have been evacuated. Those are purely cautionary, to give people time to pack up and get out before they have to for real and the roads end up jam packed. We have started to pack up some stuff, papers, clothes, pictures, etc as a precautionary measure ourselves. If we need to evacuate we will go up to DominicsMom's parents for a couple of days.

Work has closed all of their offices through Tuesday, so I'm doing what I can from home, but helping out with the kids.

We will keep everyone informed!
